The counsellors were all very nice and also helpful. The accommodation at Oxford and the food, is not a 5 star hotel, but it has everything you may need or require. Oxford Royale Academy is a great summer school, if you are looking for one.”

“Oxford Royale was an amazing summer camp of inspiration, challenges, and fun. The Introduction to Law course itself was a challenging and engaging, providing us students with information that presented us to the different aspects of law, and more importantly, information that would help us decide our future career. Overall, the Oxford Royale Academy was an excellent camp. It organized interesting and varying activities for students every day, and gave students a chance to see the beautiful sceneries of Oxford. Although the course was absolutely amazing, there were a few small leaks. Firstly, the days ran a little bit too late, the shout ends at around 22:40 most of the time, and students barely have the time to shower and so on because if we shower earlier, we no longer have the chance to run around, and we wish to use the time to socialize. Secondly, the wifi. The wifi was unstable in the Department of Education most of the time, and many students did not know how to deal with these problems. Thirdly, too many surveys. In total, there were about three surveys, which could have been grouped into one on the final day with no problem. Fourthly, not a lot of time was given for packing, most students rushed on the final day, and it was easy to lose things. Otherwise, the Oxford Royale Academy was thoroughly enjoyable and I enjoyed every second of it. I hope to come back again in the future.”

“Oxford Royale is, much like most summer camps, a wonderful opportunity to mingle with other students from around the world. Around the city of Oxford I learned to respect people from all different cultures with their own habits and motives. It was also a good opportunity to create "inside jokes" of all cultures. While the classes were great, I couldn't help but feel like all mentors were slightly inexperienced at teaching their subject - though when asked questions, we all learned that they were very knowledgeable. I had a lot of fun and look forward to taking advantage of this opportunity when I structuralise plans to study in Oxford in the future.”

“I honestly really enjoyed my stay at Saint Catz Campus. My accomodation was great; always clean and cozy, and I had a lot of privacy (having my own keys!). At first I was afraid that I wouldn't make any friends there, the first few days. But as days past, I was able to find a bunch of friends (not necesarily from my country- Spain). But I met very exceptional and interesting people. The large campus enabled me to meet many strangers, that later on became my family for a week or so (that I'll keep on social media, and maybe even meet in the future). Also, the many activities programmed, helped me meet other people out of my circle of friends- even on the last day/night! Perhaps, at times, there were too many activities on campus that it made it hard to stay on track (which also ran out very quickly, eg. the Ghost Tour!). But thanks to the whiteboard on the Quad and the papers stuck on the front of my staircase every evening, I was well aware of them. An activity that annoyed me, was the trip to Bristol- it was way too time consuming (4 hours spent in the bus) and around two hours in Bristol, to visit the SS Britain and at a shopping centre and having 5 hours of free time when we came back! Also the outdated music of the parties! (but that didn't really bother me much, as I knew all lyrics!). The two weeks, literally flew- and I mean it. They passed at a blink of an eye! Maybe faster than the first one, though; as I got used to the programme and the ambiance. I find Oxford, very good for young people especially for aged 16-18; as many summer camps occur there, and you can meet many people out of Saint Catz. Some people complained that some classes (Maths/Psycology/Econ/Physics) were placed too far off our main campus, but I was alright with it. During those two weeks I got fitter almost every minute as we had to walk everywhere; for lunch, check-ins and programmed activities which I enjoyed. The lessons were interesting, and although when at times I had no clue of some material taught, I was able to find people who were in the same spot as me. Others, also complained of having too many essays for the last week- some even had to write two essays of around 1500w or many presentations, but on my opinion, this helped us to become more independent and guide us to the uni life later on. To conclude, I am thankful to have been able to come here and I'd just like to say- very well done to the organizers of ORA, I had lots of fun, and hopefully, I'll come back next summer!”

“Oxford Royale is pretty great. I actually came out of my tiny enclosed shell and met some other people. Doing that also taught me how to be selfless. How to care for others, even if it means just waiting for them while they stand in line or finish eating, because in the end it's the little things that matter. “Well, I think it would be right to say I sought change, unlike most people. In the end, I got me a change. Be it my views on jobs or my perception of people, this program changed me in a good way. As for fun, I was careless about that part but it was so fun it became the icing on the cake. I may come back again, but I certainly don't want to ruin its uniqueness. “Despite my time at ORA being merely 4 weeks, I can confidently say that it has shaped me as an individual. The wide spectrum of nationalities at ORA exposes and changes your perception of certain cultures and nations. Oxford is a wonderful city with an amazing atmosphere. Medical Preparation Course was well-prepared, the teacher was well educated and informed about everything properly. Even though we had to learn, it didn't take our own free time. Most of the people didn't like the food at the campus, and unfortunately, I was often one of them - food for vegetarians wasn't really great, and one option of the meal is not enough, especially, if someone doesn't like lentil or chilli :) I also think, that night registration shouldn't be at 22:30, because some students would like to go to bed earlier. Any parties or ceremonies were great prepared and organised. The big disadvantage of going anywhere was, that people are irresponsible, and it took us 30 mins more to gather everyone, what cut our free time in London. Stuff should do something to solve this issues. I loved the counsellors - they were kind and talkative, it was fun to spend time with them, they were friendly to answer any of your questions. I've come back home with much more knowledge than I've ever had and prepared for a hard work, that is waiting for me. I would honestly recommend this course for anyone :)”

Not only in the sense that it was most entertaining, but also as it perfectly combined exciting activities with a riveting and meticulous course.In reference to the course of my choice, Introduction to Law, I can honestly say it was extremely well taught and informative, giving clear insight into the concepts of law and the profession. What I found most beneficial about it though is that it helped me develop an in depth way of thinking, and to adopt a more critical view on issues and their solution. I am therefore so glad that I attended the Introduction to Law course, that was incredible, dare I say, life changing.Regarding the activities and social life, I was highly surprised as I was at first nervous and apprehensive of whether I would be able to get a long with a group of kids that were not only unknown to me, but also from completely different cultures. My initial fears though were almost instantly forgotten, as everyone was amazing. I cannot recall a single person for whom I do not now hold a fond memory, or whose culture I don't admire and appreciate. What is more, due to the program I made life-long friends and met people with similar interests to myself. Together we then went on to enjoy a number of great activities, such as watching a Shakespeare play in the garden of one of Oxford's wonderful colleges, going out to town for delicious ice-cream or a smoothie, admiring Oxford's Botanic Garden, and much much more. We also went on two unforgettable excursions including one to Warwick Castle, and another to London's Natural History Museum and Science museum, both of which were great experiences. In other words, it was a blast! Lastly, I would like to mention one more reason for which I believe Oxford Royale Academy was such a success. The counsellors. Their support, effort, and enthusiasm made everyone's time yet better, while they were also extremely helpful and genuinely wonderful people. “I went to ORA for two weeks this summer, and it was by far one of the best summer camps I've done. The courses I choose - creative writing, mathematics, and leadership and team building - were amazing and I loved every moment of them. They were interesting, educational, and delightful. After taking these courses, I can say that I have definitely become a much better writer, have learned many new writing techniques, and my list of books to read has become even longer than it used to be. I have also learned new things that I haven't done before in mathematics, which will help in my studies at school, and my passion for the subject has heightened even more than before. My abilities to work in a team and be able to lead one have drastically improved as well.Not only could you do the courses you picked, but there was a wide variety of extra activities and trips added that were great fun. Some of the activities that I enjoyed included basketball, ukulele, punting, chicken wired and many more. We went on a trip to London where we could choose to either go to the London Dungeons or The Aquarium, and I choose the latter. It was a memorable experience and my love for aquariums and for the creatures found inside them has grown. We also went to Stratford - William Shakespeare's birthplace - and learned a lot about him. We got to visit his home, learn a few new Shakespearean insults that they used back in the day, and learn the dance they did at the end of every Shakespeare play performed in the open theatres. There were also social events such as themed dances and those were entertaining, with dancing not being the only thing to do. Graduation made me feel accomplished, although sad to be leaving. ORA isn't only about the courses and the activities, but also about meeting people from all around the globe and socializing with them - making new friends. I have met a numerous amount of people and made friends that I will never forget. This has helped me get a better insight of how alike but at the same time, how different we are to one another.All in all, it was a special experience and I took back home many memories. I am glad to have done it.”

Plus, Oxford Royale has given me a positive introduction to English-style class. Taught in classes with less than 20 people, students are taken care of carefully and points of views are spread out in a free way. The western education system is of better variety and it stresses motivation more than Chinese classes do. In class, short interruptions that are contributive to the development are accepted and new topics of extension produced in this way is a shining point of Oxford as long as the advanced and mature teaching mode. I could CERTAINLY recommend Oxford Royale to students, especially those from China.Following my professor, Mr. Graham Cowgill, who has been with abundant, professional background experience and ultimate patience to explain and quote the basic theories of economy, so as to lead a beginner like me to enter this world of business and enterprise. Through his detailed explanations, varied extended resources provided, enlightening and orderliness schedule of curriculum, I was able to have the courage to face difficulties. To conclude, I’ve met and followed a very unforgettable and significant professor.The most significant memory with my professor is the initiative helps he provides me with. Project is a damn difficult thing, to be frank. The most important factor is where to where to put hands into the whole thing. Graham just got into my team and did some checking and vital points were raised. When business analysis were done in the mission, he just came and asked about each feature of the product, giving inspiring questions that are firmly linked to the business world and academic contents in the textbook. Facing his questions the group made reassignments and new designs and the final results proved to be satisfactory. That is different from most teachers who directly provide answers.Another shining point of Graham is his encouragement and support after class. Each time I ask questions, he would always provide informative explanations and adopt the inspiring way giving lectures. Sometimes his writings on the board, or on my student’s guide, could be even more informative and complex than those written on class. Perhaps my courage and interest of business is enhanced by his effort of help, and through which I activate my full effort and focus, getting the Effort Prize finally.I’ve talked a lot about academic things. However, though it is called an “academy”, what Oxford Royale covers is much more than academic advances. Activities for fun and for extra curriculum knowledge considerably enhanced the trip’s delight. Model Stocks and Share Market gave me the first practice of my course, though the loop playback of background music “GDFR” and “Low” indicated my results as a beginner; the Great ORA debate and the MUN told me that I still have to be humble even facing debating and political issues which I considered I was skilled in. Tours and dance parties were formed in the ways I had never experienced before, giving me a new way to explore and free myself.Oxford Royale is also great for its student body. Students from more than 100 countries filled the whole campus. To a large extent, this is one of the most challenging and interesting part when I was staying in Oxford. Learning about “Bonjour”, “heavy industry” and talking about “blocked Google”, we put down our prejudice, living deliberately, living deep, and smudging the marrows and the extremes in our lives and views – quite educational.There are so much fantastic experiences in Oxford Royale that they could not be concluded, neither to be listed. “It was a great experience to make new friends but personally, the medical course was a letdown. The teacher was simply another medical student when I was promised the best teacher. It was also quite frustrating when our teacher left to go watch horse racing instead of continuing his commitment. Also the food provided at the Yarnton Manor was sometimes extremely horrible and this is not only my opinion but the opinion of many who attended. Also no fans were provided for the extremely hot rooms even after being promised then. Luckily it became colder and the towels provided did help to cope with the sweat.”

To begin with, my neuroscience course was the most interesting course I ever took, I really enjoyed it, and enjoyed the instructor's way of teaching. Then, I really liked that there were always activities in stock for us that brought us (the students) closer together, made us try new things and allowed us to express ourselves: I liked the art session, the drumming session, the quiz night, the punting, the parties, the outdoor theatre, the insight masterclass (Stock market challenge), the Model United Nations and our excursion to London (the musical "The School of Rock" was amazing). (Also, having mini-foot tables and table tennis in the Marquee was a good idea). When it comes to the people at ORA, the counsellors were very helpful, very fun and friendly, and a lot of the students I met were amazing people, very open, interesting, talented and such good friends with whom I had a great time with! Another reason why I enjoyed my stay there so much was because we were given some freedom and were trusted. Plus, there was lots of beautiful nature in Oxford to explore and we were aloud to use the Music House on the Saint Catherine campus whenever we wanted; I loved spending time there with my friends.”

I see now why the course is called 'Broadening Horizons' because ORA has changed my outlook and perspective, not only of the world around me, but of myself too. The international atmosphere that ORA provided was a fantastic opportunity to be exposed to culture, activities and excursions, and really gave me a broader understanding of what 'education' really means through a social and intellectually stimulating environment. I am a debater, and never so many times have I been in debates with peers and had to say, "Oh yes, you make a very good point. I stand corrected. You're absolutely right." The academic classes and workshop were absolutely first rate. The opportunity to engage with the class and ask questions was always at the forefront, and I really felt accepted and appreciated in the classroom. I learned things that I would never have otherwise got to learn about, such as Experimental Psychology, and Special Relativity. There is something amazing and unique about being surrounded by peers from completely different cultures, and discovering so much in common in terms of the way we think and approach problems and ideas, both inside the classroom and out. ORA did something dramatic for me emotionally: I have discovered the great chasm of difference that lies between 'being accepted and respected' for who I am, and 'being truly appreciated, supported, encouraged and loved' for who I am, and for what I have to offer, by students and staff in equal measure. I used to think of myself as a very self-confident person, but now I realise - others showing how much I am valued instils a new level of self-respect and shows me what I deserve. I am so grateful to ORA for completely transforming my social and personal perspectives.”

I learnt so many new topics and enjoyed the practical sessions when we disected a heart during the introduction to medicine course. “I took part in the Preparation for Medicine course at St Catharine's College, Cambridge this summer and could not recommend it strongly enough for students, particularly those interested in pursuing medicine as an undergraduate degree in university! The emphasis in the first week of the course on BMAT/UKCAT practice (required for applications to UK medical schools), as well as on writing a UCAS personal statement, served as good exposure for those of us unfamiliar with these tests. In the second week, the opportunity to visit the Clinical Skills Centre in King's College London was particularly enlightening and interesting, as we had the opportunity to try out practical skills, such as CPR, cannulation and basic suturing, which are often required to be carried out by doctors. In addition, we also got to dissect a lamb's heart and learnt about basic anatomy, including the nervous system and testing for reflexes. Our teacher (Esumary), a current medical school student, was also knowledgeable, encouraging, friendly and patient with our class. Overall, I feel that the course served as great preparation for medical school, and was very interesting and informative on both the human body/medicine as well as the actual university application process, and I would therefore recommend it even for those who perhaps have interest in the field but do not necessarily want to become doctors.”

“I did the 2018 Broadening Horizons Course through Oxford Royale Academy from 1st-14th July, and it was one of the best trips of my life! It was amazing to meet people from all across the world- from different cultures and backgrounds- and to share the experience with the numerous friends I made. The lessons were very interesting and the classroom environment was fun and relaxed. Activities such as punting and watching Mamma Mia in London made this trip unforgettable. Furthermore, the amazing ORA counsellors made this trip ten times as exciting, especially the counsellors at Queen's College. They really took care of us and made us feel right at home. By the end of the two weeks, we were all dreading going back home and wished that the trip could go on forever! I would recommend this trip to anyone who is considering applying- you will definitely not regret it.”

“Coming to Oxford Royale this summer was an experience I'll never forget. It allowed me to broaden my horizons; not just within the classroom, where I studied subjects I wouldn't be able to at school, but also in a social context. I met people from all over the world, and got to know more about different countries, cultures and religions, truly allowing me to get a taste of many places that I haven't yet had the chance to visit yet.While I learned a lot in my classes at ORA and loved my teachers and the life they brought to the classroom, they surprisingly weren't the most important part of my 2 weeks at Oxford, as I'd expected them to be. What now matters to me are the friendships I've forged over the last 2 weeks, the Queen's College campus I've come to adore and the city that is Oxford in general; Oxford is a place I've grown to love and is a place I would return to in a heartbeat, and I will most certainly be back if not next year, in the very near future.”

“To begin with, I would like to thank each member of ORA who made this experience so special and unforgettable for me. My first campus was meant to be Yarnton Manor. When I arrived there, I didn’t feel like the staff cared about us, it felt like they were so uninterested. There were a lot hours which we sat and did nothing, and the activities were not diverse and interesting enough. The rooms were terrible, food would be finished if you arrived a little late, and there was only one type of food. I was so dissatisfied. Thanks to Kris, I was able to change my campus, and the “magical” part of my journey started. When I arrived at Lady Margaret Hall, staff was really welcoming and it made me feel like I was a part of that place even though I arrived 3 days later. Activities were really nice and productive. Having 2 activities most of the days even made it better. Accomodation was amazing as well, rooms were big and we had our bathroom, which made living in the campus much easier. Lessons were instructive and pragmatic, I learned many things that I didn’t before. Despite this, we were inclined to forget what we learned because we weren’t asked about the things we learned. Our assignments were about different topics than we learned in our lessons, maybe it would be better if we would be given projects on what we learned, but it was still so educative. The food was literally amazing, it was various and delicious. The excursions were really nice as well, although we could have visited Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Palace, St. Paul Cathedral and etc. instead of the Dungeons and an aquarium because they have nothing to do with London. Instead of being underground it would have been better to visit landmarks. And lastly, the best part of the camp was definitely making so many friends all over the world, and having the time of your life with them. The time I spent with my friends was full of laughter and joy, I can’t forget any part of it, it was just perfect and every time I think about it ı get emotional. These 2 weeks have been one of the best two weeks in my life, and I cannot thank anyone enough for that. I will never forget the memories I made, it was just perfect.”

“My experience with ORA was outstanding. I learned a lot during the two weeks I spent at St. Peter's College, and got to know several interesting people. The only thing I wish would have been different is the number of compulsory social activities. There should be some compulsory activities, but not too many. As an introvert, I got exhausted by the tight program and lack of alone time, and several of those whom I spoke to agreed. One or two hours more free time would have been enough to recharge, and thereby enjoy the activities more.Apart from that, I have only positive memories from Oxford, and highly recommend it.”

We had a lot of free time which wasn’t taken for granted since we got the chance to walk around oxford and discover beautiful monuments! As for the teachers, the ones I personally had were exceptional! They were extremly patient, joyful and talked to us without having the awkward teacher-student barrier! The consuelors were extremly nice and patient given all the students they had to take care of. They were always open to discussion and not screaming at us all the time. Finally, the campus was very nice and easy to get around. I personally had a very nice room with a private bathroom which i was very thankful for. The only downsides were the facts that small fans weren’t provided since it could be very hot at times in the room. As well as the access to water was quite minimal. However I will always keep the best memories with me and i will definetly recommend this camp to my friends and family! Thank you for this wonderful experience ORA!”

I come from a very small country located in Central America named El Salvador and I was the only one of my country in the college I assisted to, I was proud of representing my small country at Oxford Royale Academy. I took a course named Introduction to Leadership and it was the best course that I could have ever chosen, I learned different leadership styles and how famous leaders the world has known took decisions thinking about others instead of themselves. “I chose to spend two weeks of my summer at Oxford primarily to explore my interests in Business and Economics. Equally important, however, was the student life that I experienced whilst staying and studying in the same colleges as the undergraduate students. My course focused on the fundamentals of business which included basic economic principles and marketing strategies. My teacher, Mr. Anthony Spio, taught at the master’s level at Oxford University, and had worked with Unilever for 27 years. Thus, his technical expertise proved to be invaluable assets to classroom theory. The academics were supplemented by a field trip to Cadbury World, where one of the company’s marketing heads gave a lecture on Cadbury’s marketing approach. All of the classroom learning, and fieldwork ultimately led to the Business challenge, where we were divided into teams with the objective of creating a unique product and successfully marketing it. Throughout the experience, I got to explore new fields whilst enhancing my pre-existing research and presentation skills. In addition, I became more confident of the fact that I can spend prolonged periods of time in a completely new city. Although I did achieve the academic attainment prize for ranking first in the course, I will never forget the people that I met and the places that I went. Oxford was a wonderful host and I sincerely hope to see this beautiful city as soon as I can.”

“One of the best camps I’ve ever went to”

“It was a very good camp the activities and food were amazing. Although the lesson content was not good enough. It could have been harder and in my case more releated to enginnering. Also our teacher was very biased and keep bullying us He was also not acknowledged enough.”

“My experience at ORA was (almost) perfect. The academics were great, and I learned tonnes of new things with my amazing teacher Dr. Kanyaru in the computer science course. I was opened up to a whole new aspect of programming, and was finally properly taught computer science. Up until now, I have always loved computers and technology in general, but have always found code and programming tedious and repetitive. This course helped me get past that barrier and really start to be creative with code. All in all I am very pleased with the learning and academics course.However, there were a few things about the course that should have been done differently, in my opinion. Firstly, during my time at ORA, I received a yellow card. This was a deserved punishment for the rule I broke, and I am not going to dispute that. Nevertheless, the email that was sent to parents was an issue for me. The email was sent to three parents as three students were involved, but my name was the one on all of them, so the same generic email didn't even get the slight change of correcting the name for each student. Second of all, the grading system confused me quite a bit. The commentary left by my teacher, said that I had "pursued topics BEYOND those taught in class", meaning that I had done more than expected or taught. This caused me to be confused when my grade for progress and effort was a 7/10, when I had gone beyond the contents of the course in my work. Furthermore, the comment on my report described what we had done in the course, however it described things we did not do like "banking system in Java". Finally, I felt that the admin staff had a very invasive way of keeping an eye on the students. We were told that staff were placed around the town lurking as spies in normal clothing, making sure that the students were doing as instructed and respecting the rules. While I understand the fact that there are rules that must be upheld, and that ORA is responsible for us while we are there, I feel this is a very unsettling way of doing so, it incites a sort of paranoia making one look over ones shoulder every time one leaves the campus. In addition to that, we were told that our internet history was being recorded by the college. This is extremely invasive, and I personally find it very unnerving that other people I do not know nor trust have access to my personal browsing history. I really did feel comfortable using the internet (that worked at its own will) while at the course. In conclusion, I had a great learning experience at ORA, and I received what I expected from the course. I learned a lot of things, and really gained a new found appreciation for programming and its nuances. I got a lot out of this experience and have come home with new knowledge I can apply to my own projects. This does not mean, that all was rosy and without issue. As afore mentioned, there were a few problems I encountered during my time at ORA, that I felt necessary to point out here. I hope my feedback will prove helpful for whomever it may concern.”

“The experience that Oxford Royale provided me with was one of the most memorable. I interacted and made friends with a diverse bunch of students with similar interests to my own. It gave me the opportunity to work toward an subject that I might choose to further and come back after the two weeks as a more independent individual.
