Oxford Summer School Scholarships 2027: Funding and Deadlines

Find the funding route that fits: a means-tested bursary, an essay competition, a charity nomination or a free university access programme.

A summer school scholarship can make a substantial difference to the cost of studying in Oxford. But the word “scholarship” covers very different arrangements: a full fee award, a partial discount, support available only through a charity, or a place on a free university access programme.

For summer 2027, start by separating funding you can apply for directly from opportunities with restricted eligibility. The guide below sets out the routes verified on providers’ own websites, with deadlines attached to the correct application cycle.

Information checked 24 October 2026. Availability and deadlines can change.

Immerse Education bursaries

Best for students who need financial assistance and can prepare an application showing their circumstances and motivation.

Immerse offers bursaries of up to 100% of programme tuition for students aged 13–18 when the programme starts. Applicants must meet the provider’s school and financial-assistance criteria and UK study eligibility requirements; all nationalities are welcome.

For the 2027 cycle, applications are due 31 March 2027, decisions are released 30 April, and awards must be redeemed by 31 May. The provider explicitly says awards granted in April 2027 can be used for 2027 programmes.

Apply with an essay of up to 500 words, a video of up to three minutes and financial verification. Prepare these before starting. Read the eligibility criteria and apply for an Immerse bursary.

Immerse Education essay scholarships

Best for students who want to demonstrate subject interest through academic writing.

The current 2027 essay competition round closes 25 October 2026, with results scheduled for 9 November 2026 and redemption by 25 November 2026. Entry is free and open internationally to students who will be 13–18 when their programme begins.

Entrants write a 500-word academic essay. Awards include full scholarships and partial awards; the provider advertises partial scholarships of up to 75%. Oxford is among the programme locations offered, but the award is not exclusively for Oxford.

A partial award leaves a balance to pay. Check the award conditions, eligible course and remaining cost before accepting a place. Read the current Immerse competition rules and submit an entry.

Oxford Scholastica and the OxBright Scholars programme

Best for eligible students already supported by the provider’s partner charities.

Oxford Scholastica’s current scholarship route is nomination by staff at partner charities, including IntoUniversity, The Access Project and Universify. It does not accept direct scholarship applications. The provider also says students cannot approach those charities simply to request a nomination, because they work with their own students.

The advertised OxBright Scholars programme provides ongoing support, including subject mentoring and weekly live tutorials. It should not be presented as an open offer of a free two-week residential summer school.

If you already work with a participating charity, speak to the staff member who supports you. Read Oxford Scholastica’s scholarship policy.

UNIQ at the University of Oxford

Best for eligible UK state-school students seeking a free university access experience.

UNIQ is the University of Oxford’s own free residential and support programme. It is aimed at students in Year 12 in England and Wales, Year 13 in Northern Ireland or S5 in Scotland, with academic and background criteria that prioritise groups underrepresented at Oxford. It is a separate access programme, rather than a scholarship for an independent summer school.

The official dates page still shows the 2026 cycle and says it will be updated for 2027. Do not use January 2026’s closing date as a 2027 deadline. Check UNIQ eligibility and the official application dates. Students can also register for updates.

Atlas Summer Courses

Atlas, formerly Oxford Summer Courses, explicitly states that it does not currently offer scholarships, bursaries or need-based financial assistance. It does accept external sponsorship and can provide supporting confirmation documents. Instalment plans are available after the deposit, subject to balance deadlines; paying in instalments does not reduce the total fee. Read Atlas’s funding policy.

Academy Royale International

Academy Royale International, formerly Oxford Royale, has a published note stating that it is not offering scholarships in 2026. That does not establish whether a new scheme will operate for 2027. Until a dated 2027 announcement is available, there is no verified application deadline or open award to list here. Read the provider’s scholarship note.

Summer Boarding Courses

The scholarship link used in our earlier article now redirects to SBC’s homepage. We have not verified a current 2027 scholarship application window, so the old March 2022 deadline and fully funded award details are no longer listed as available. Visit SBC’s official website for new announcements.

Does a full scholarship cover every cost?

Do not budget on the phrase “100% scholarship” alone. The award letter should identify the exact costs covered: tuition, accommodation, meals, activities, travel, transfers, insurance and entry permission may be treated differently.

Use a simple calculation before accepting a partial award: eligible fee minus the confirmed award, plus all excluded costs. For illustration, a 50% award against an eligible £6,000 fee leaves £3,000 before any extras; this is a worked example, not a provider quotation.

Ask for the remaining amount and payment dates in writing. A competition result or participation certificate is not the same as a funded place.

How to prepare a stronger application

Choose a course that connects clearly to your interests, and explain that connection through specific examples: a book you questioned, a project you completed or a topic you would like to explore further. Give accurate information about your circumstances and follow the application format precisely.

Prepare school confirmation, references or financial evidence when the scheme requests them. Share sensitive documents only through the provider’s official application channel. Submit before the deadline and record any separate date for accepting or redeeming the award.

For an essay competition, read the current questions and rules on originality, references and AI use before writing. The strongest application is one that answers the actual prompt in the student’s own voice.

University funding and independent summer schools are different

Oxford degree scholarships are not automatically available for an independent summer course held in a college. For example, the University’s Reach Oxford Scholarship supports undergraduate degree study, rather than a short summer school.

Adults considering a University-run course can explore Oxford Lifelong Learning’s funding information, where eligibility depends on the specific course and funding scheme. It is not a blanket source of funding for independent providers.

Choose the course and the funding route together

Start with the opportunities for which you meet the eligibility rules, then compare the subject, age group, teaching style and remaining cost. For help understanding the programmes themselves, read our Oxford summer schools comparison.

A scholarship should make a suitable programme accessible. It is not a guarantee of university admission, and neither a college venue nor an Oxford-related name makes an independent course a University of Oxford programme.
