“I had an absolutely great time at ISSOS St Andrews in 2016! When they say it's the experience of a lifetime, they really aren't kidding! It's all of that and so much more, it's the perfect place to meet people from all around the world, build lasting friendships and learn all at once! The accommodation is great, the lessons are great, the activities are great and so are the electives, I completely recommend it.Whilst I only had the privilege of attending ISSOS once, it's an experience I'll never forget, with memories I'll cherish forever. The lessons I learned from my Youth Leadership course I still apply to everyday life and I absolutely love their Clan Games. In fact, it was ISSOS that got me interested in Tennis and after my summer in St Andrews, I decided to return home and start playing and learning seriously.ISSOS teachers are second to none, and ISSOS counsellors are the nicest people you will ever meet. I never wanted leave ISSOS that summer, and I hope to apply to be an ISSOS counsellor in the future.”

“My daughter had the privilege of attending the International Summer School of Scotland at St. Andrews University for three weeks during the summer prior to her junior and senior year. I can say, that ISSOS was one of the most amazing experiences she has ever had. During her time there, she met numerous students from all over the world. Meeting students from various religious and cultural backgrounds opened her eyes to ideology and issues that were once foreign to her. It was intriguing how she learned to see what they had in common and not just focus on the apparent differences. With a balanced program of academia and culture, ISSOS provided her with an environment where she could learn within an encouraging and supportive environment. During her time there, she studied youth leadership, debate, film, and tennis. The experience provided her with unique developmental, educational and cultural benefits that would not be able to be replicated in a traditional classroom. In particular, the debate class combined the building blocks of argumentation and presentation with an introduction to basic political and philosophical theory necessary to debate a wide range of issues. Her ability to debate topics outside her comfort zone improved dramatically. As a freshman in college, this exposure has given her great confidence in many of her speech and international business classes in college. Twice a week, she had the opportunity to explore parts of Scotland, getting to know the culture and history. Meeting students from over 70 nationalities was truly a valuable and life changing experience. The relationships she formed with these students gave me a better understanding of international issues and conflicts. She still stays in touch with many of the students she met during her time there. The program taught her so many valuable lessons and experiences that she will carry with her forever.”

But the staff at ISSOS had been so helpful with all my questions and concerns by email that I was reassured that my daughter would be in good hands. During my daughter’s stay at St Andrews, she had a bit of a problem with one of the wires on her braces and the councelor took the time to accompany her to an orthodontist a few towns away! Their dedication and care to the kids at ISSOS is amazing and my daughter has so many friends around the world who she still talks to even today. “ISSOS was an incredible experience. I became friends with people from different countries that even months after ISSOS I still talk to. The kids were all kind people and the teachers worked very hard to make classes interesting and enjoyable. The large amount of independence allowed us to roam around the Yale campus and New Haven which was very fun. The classes were not too long, and were split up with breaks which prevented anyone from getting too stir-crazy. Additionally, the night activities associated with clan wars allowed us to run around and play sports which even the non-athletic kids enjoyed. Overall, this was a summer that I will never forget and I highly recommend it to everyone.”

“Both my daughters attended ISSOS St. Andrews for the first time this year. They both raved about how friendly and well organised this camp was and both said it was the best camp they attended so far. They particularly liked the counsellors, the games and the afternoon activities (film and drama) as well as the overall supportive atmosphere. One of them did debate which has proven to be a great growth opportunity and experience. The other one did the 'pre-IB' course and was a bit disappointed as primarily they were made to work on an essay during the course which did not get collected and graded as the instructor seems to have been busy with her own PhD thesis. Instead she had hoped to learn more about study skills than just some relaxation techniques. However, this was the only criticism I heard - everything else seems to have been just fantastic, specifically the international and friendly spirit of it all. Both of them said that they would want to return and their brother is now interested as well.”

“I attended ISSOS 4 years in a row at the St. Andrews campus. My only regret is that I didn't decided to attend earlier than I did! After my 1st year I begged my parents to let me return, so much so that the very next day from returning I was already in for the next. Everything about the program is extremely well-planned and thought out, academic classes and electives, clan activities, day trips and other events that occur during the 3 weeks. There is nothing that is boring or uninteresting. The teachers are dedicated and enthusiatic, the counsellors are kind, funny, easy to talk to and basically become one of your friends. The staff are always on hand incase something goes wrong. With over 150 students and staff coming from different backgrounds and cultures and living together for 3 weeks, the amount of learning, fun and understanding is limitless. Over 4 years I have had the honour and privilege to meet some of the most amazing people, staff, students and counselors included; many of whom I still keep in contact with. Not being able to go back (since I'm too old) is very saddening, however I do plan in 2 years to return as a counselor and give back to those who gave so much to me.I cannot recommend ISSOS enough, for giving me my best summers and memories.”

“Courses are well structured. Instructors are very good. Trips to Glasgow and Edinburgh very good: they give students independence, chance to explore.The 4 o’clock activities and the Sunday workshops should have been optional from the very beginning; there is not enough free time for students to rest, chat or wander around town. It was extremely tiring. Clan activities were mostly athletic and very repetitive, they could have included nonathletic activities. Facilities (dorm rooms and bathrooms) not great.”

“A very BIG Thank-you to the great St Andrews ISSOS teamWe (the parents and our 14 ½ years old son) opted for ISSOS’s St Andrews camp because (a) of our previous positive experience with ISSOS Yale and (b) of St Andrews’s reputation as one of the most famous places worldwide.Being curious about the claims of St Andrews’s fame, I traveled to St Andrews and visited ISSOS’s camp. I must admit that my trip beat my initial, high expectations. In fact, I was amazed by the reputation surrounding St Andrews: the unique beach scenery, the university buildings, the historic stone architecture, the cohort of international students. The students spent 3 weeks in this iconic and absolutely safe village of St Andrews. They were daily “one with nature”, among others by doing activities on “West Sands”, which -- in all honesty -- is one of the most exquisite beaches in the world (and featured in the Oscar awarded film “Chariots of Fire”).And, equally important, they got a true taste of university campus life, as their academic activities were taking place in the centuries-old university buildings.I was privileged to meet ISSOS’s team at the parent reception on Sa, 19 July, one day before the students’ departure. The day after, I was again at the University premises for my son’s check-out. As the students were departing, I witnessed the wonderful, rare, emotional bond that the staff had established with the students, which made the separation “difficult” and heart-breaking.These counselors and teachers were offering the students their friendship in abundance, and were making sure that the students enjoy every day, every activity and every single moment. Their mission is to make sure that the students have a hilarious stay, an “unforgettable experience”. They can handle difficult and “delicate” issues, if needed. These guys are bringing tons of academic knowledge and professional skills from different fields and environments. Above all, they have an unparalleled enthusiasm to embrace the students and work with them. In one sentence: It was a genuine, great pleasure and a privilege to meet you, guys, in St Andrews. I wish you all the best in your personal and professional endeavors.
