It's very difficult for me to say why I loved it, but I'll try.I met some amazing people there and made some excellent friends, who, after 5 and a half months, I am still in contact with. Because there were only around 40 people at the academy, I got to know everyone and got along with them all.Working in a university environment massively helped me to realise what I wanted to do in the future. My tutor for my course was very supportive and fun; we had a great time in our lessons, learning lots but enjoying it at the same time.I think most of all, this course boosted my confidence. “In the summer 2014, I spent an entire month in Oxford, England. Not only was it the longest time I'd been away, it was also where I met some of the greatest and most interesting people I'd ever met. Two weeks were used for a creative writing course, followed by two weeks of a Shakespearean study course. I was worried at first, about being homesick or whatever, but it was only a day before I got over that. Jamie, Kit, Ade, Sophie, Molly, Georgia, and Henry were all fantastic teachers/counselors, and made sure everybody was safe and enjoying themselves. All the activities Oxford Scholastica offered were a bit daunting at first, but as soon as they began, it seemed ridiculous to even consider the worries I had beforehand. Punting, Oxford Olympics, London, Eton, Debate Masterclass, Windsor Castle, Shakespeare plays...all accompanied with some of the funniest and most enjoyable people I know to date. What truly made Oxford Scholastica Academy special were the people I met. From literally all over the globe, I now feel as if I could fly or drive anywhere, and land in a place where I could find old friends. India, Greece, Brazil, China, Pakistan, Switzerland, and more, and I suddenly had a source of first-hand information on all these places.This summer changed my life. It changed my idea of other cultures and changed the way I want to live my life. I would DEFINITELY recommend this trip, because no matter where you're from or where you want to go, Oxford Scholastica brings out the best in everybody.”

“So what happens when you throw 30 nationalities together for two weeks in one location? Well first, you bond, and then talk about Mario Goetze's winning goal, talk about politics, your goals, dreams, passions, hobbies and so on! This is exactly what I experienced in the Oxford Scholastica Academy! Two weeks of endless memories, fun, retarded moments and educational ones! From the overly casual, friendly and amazing staff and tutors, to the super exiting trips to the London Eye, The Shakespeare globe and tours around Oxford city, it never stops. There was so much do in so little time. The people you meet become your family for 2 weeks and friends for life. The classes are very challenging but they give you a little glimpse of what the course is like in university. We experience our courses in real life as well. I opted for Law and we had the fantastic opportunity to go to an actual court and fight a case. It was the most memorable experience of my life and it made me want to become a lawyer even more. I want to thank Oxford Scholastica academy for giving me the perfect training and opportunities during this course. This summer was the best ever.”

“I attended the Young Doctors' Academy course which I absolutely loved from the very first day. We learned so much in just two weeks. During the course, I felt like an actual medical student. From what I've heard from the other students, all courses were very interesting and well-organised, but if there was one that really stood out, it was without a doubt the YDA course!This summer school camp is a great way to get to learn more about a certain subject you're interested in, experience what it's like to study abroad, get to know different cultures and to meet people from all over the world. They, and also the rest of the staff, made sure everyone was comfortable at all times, which is something I find very important because for most of the students including myself, it was the first time to be on a trip alone. “The main reason I enjoyed OSA was because of the program's organization. In addition to a regular schedule for classes, there was a variety of activities to look forward to. “I am the father of Makonnen Christian of Maryland who entered the Oxford Scholastica program last summer. Makonnen and his sister co-authored a children's book when they were quite young, so Makonnen entered the creative writing program. I came over with him just to make sure all would be well. As for the program? Makonnen was thrilled by the hands on instruction from his writing professor and the creativity that it stimulated in him. More important was the practical technique in plot construction that he was given. We are also pleased that his writing professor has kept up with him, via email, after the program concluded. Makonnen was housed in an actual Oxford University dorm and at the center of this historic center of global learning with bright students from all over the world. He got to visit London's historic sights and attended a play...only problem was he did not get to meet the original bard. He did think the food interesting - he said "Dad we eat hot food and cold drinks in the States, but in England it was reversed." But he was well taken care of and able to relate to his fellow students and program staff. Jamie Dear, Director of Oxford Scholastica, was most accessible and gracious. Jamie's wife, a medical doctor, was also supportive in a way which pleased me as a parent.This was our only son's first time away from home, in a foreign land, for any length of time, so one has concerns. However, all went well. All in all we are quite pleased that our son benefited from what was a once in a lifetime experience at Oxford Scholastica. I would recommend the program to any parent in search of a unique academic enrichment offering. In a globalized world, this program and its diverse attendees, offers a student a tremendous opportunity to broaden his or her horizons. And the location, and its rich history as a center of learning, is difficult to match.”

Almost a year on, she has made deep friendships and maintains a chat group with several co-campers, having visited with several already on weekends throughout the school year, and with plans to meet up next summer. When I first decided to send her to Oxford through the Scholastica program, I was quite unsure if it would be worth her time and our money, but we were definitely not disappointed. “I really enjoyed this course. Not only was it an amazing opportunity, but I got to meet incredible people along the way that I still consider my best friends. Oxford is definitely one of the most beautiful and history-filled places I have ever been. The program I thought was very organized with awesome counselors. However, the only complaint I have was the fact that we lacked a little freedom. The only freedom I had was during lunch mainly which was a bit upsetting. I think some of the activities planned were more for a younger crowd. The youngest person I met was age 15. With this in mind...I feel like we are old and smart enough to go out to dinner at night and do our own thing as long as we have a reasonable curfew. This is my only suggestion really. I felt like some things were just a bit stricter than they needed to be given it was the first year of the program. But overall, it was a fun and enriching experience and I definitely will recommend it to others.”

“I enrolled in the OSA academy in August 2015 and enjoyed my time there immensely. Having taken up Psychology, I enjoyed the subject a lot and loved the central location of the accomodation (the rooms were superb). If asked for an advice, I would want going a little less strict on the timetables/schedules and cooperating with the needs of students a bit more warmly. Otherwise the school was great and I am happy to be able to call it a life experience of mine.”

“Prior to attending the Oxford Scholastica Academy, the image I had of this summer camp was far different than what I was expecting; I'll explain it in a few words: I had expected OSA to be a summer camp with an unpleasant amount of workload, no time for fun and studies was our #1 priority, but it was the complete opposite. The first day, Jamie told us that some people had the best summer of their lives at OSA, and hearing that made me giggle, as I completely underestimated the influence OSA had on me later on. As I left the camp, I looked back and thought of how well this camp balanced the activities and its values: I learned a lot (In the Engineering course, that I'm applying right now in my senior year at school, very useful), I made a lot of new friends (that I still speak to almost everyday), the staff at OSA were remarkably amusing and friendly, and the whole management was amazing. Hats off to Jamie Dear for actually, making OSA the best summer camp I've ever attended and probably making it the best summer I've had.”

Ice-breaking was a very good idea in my opinion. The accommodation was extremely comfortable - we were looked after very well by the Dame and the Scholastica staff. I personally enjoyed the food, and there was a good balance between self-arranged and group meals, as it allowed us to socialise and bond even with students who took other courses or were in the other house. The classes were interactive, fun but also thought-provoking. My Law course definitely gave me more insight into the subject field, although I wouldn't have minded if it was a bit more work-intensive. That's subject to opinion, of course. Enjoyed the outings. I'm well-aware some people broke curfew rules but to be honest, curfew was an excellent idea. It made sure we were safe and had enough rest, regardless if we were hanging around the accommodation or actually in our rooms sleeping. The room itself - clean, cosy, tidy, thanks to the cleaning-man. Didn't use the laundry service but imagined it to be relatively efficient? Overall, my first summer school and a much cherished experience. Best of all: met friends from all over the world.”

“I brought my two children aged 16 and 13 to participate in the summer program 2016 . The staff were very welcoming and showed them their rooms and helped them get settled. At the reception I met some of the staff and teachers who would look after them for the next two weeks. The program is very well organised, and from the time I dropped them off to the time I picked them up they were always very well looked after.They had their own private rooms with a shower and bathroom. They learned to become more independent by doing their own laundry, choosing where they wanted to have lunch (and managing their money) and choosing some of the activities they wanted to do (my son preferred Shakespeare to shopping). They got to know Oxford very well and when I went to pick them up they gave me a tour of the center of Oxford. They had several excursions to London and enjoyed the sights with the friends they had made during their stay.As for the academic program, they loved their teachers and the course showed them what it would be like to study that particular subject later at university. They had some work to do on their own and sometimes had to write reports. Just by being in Oxford they got a feel of how it is to study in one of the most famous Universities in the world. This has motivated them to study harder to get the good grades needed to get in ( we can see how motivated they are and how hard they are working this academic year).They enjoyed their evening activities with their new friends.They have kept in touch with their new friends and talk to each other via internet.When I went to pick them up at the end of the two week program, they were both very sad saying goodbye to every one and my son said to me "thank you dad for the best summer of my life"”

I was restricted to two blocks for lunch, and while getting lunch independently was nice, I was sorry to hear how little OSA trusted our navigation skills. Also, discover classes should have a more advanced option/the age minimum to non-discover classes should be lowered. However, afternoon activities were great; although I was upset the London field trip was canceled.”

“I never thought I'd make such good friends within a mere two weeks, but I did. Two days in my tightest friend group consisted of 7 people altogether coming from 4 different countries and we spent the time doing everything together. I'd hop to class every day, have fun and learn something refreshing, then my friends will be waiting for me back at the accommodation where we gather and set off again to have yummy bites wherever we want. It's a constant adventure in a safe and warm environment, with super friendly staff who aren't much older than us and so are easy to approach and equally great to talk to. I love them. If you want to know how happy I am with OSA, well, it made me pick Oxford as my uni over Cambridge. :) And before you scoff - "well, that must have been due to other factors too!" - yes, but when Oxbridge is really just so similar, OSA was an overwhelming motivation behind my choice because I was instantly attracted by the homeliness of the town. I was drawn compellingly to Oxford by the fond memories OSA created for me :)You might think it's "just" a Summer camp, but this is no other Summer camp and "just" certainly doesn't do it justice. “I've always shared a passion for business, but have never really got the chance to explore it further than school. But then I came across the OSA Scholarship, after been shown a video in my school assembly, I was instantly hooked and wanted to research into it quickly. Having looked at the courses the Academy offers, Enterprise stood out and I read all the information about the course I could and applied contently. When I got selected and started receiving emails in terms of the start of the summer school, I got more and more excited. As nervous as I was on the first day, I was happier throughout the whole journey! The lovely people I met have grown so close to me and I have made so many amazing memories with them! I loved learning about different cultures and lifestyles and how traditions here differ from elsewhere, and the love they shared for Oxford showed me how beautiful this place actually is! Interestingly, I have memories attached to nearly every corner of central town; where we had dinner with our house groups and lunch with my friends, and now I can't walk past without having stopped to look back at those times! The most difficult part has got to be departures day, leaving the people you grow so close to in little time is really sad and there has to be a reunion! My tutor for Enterprise was really nice and he got to know every class member really well impressively quickly! The class sizes were small to receive a greater tutor focus individually, but big enough to have some well debated group discussions! The feedback he gave to me really helped in the development of my skills and he played a big hand in making me a more confident person, especially after the hands-on brand challenge! My favourite was when we had competitions on who could use and apply an intense formula the quickest in class! The staff were an incredible support system and what I loved the most is that the age gap between them and us wasn't too big and this helped them understand us very well and always took care of every single person! I made so many memories with the team itself that they just became our friends by the end of it! I still remember watching the OSA video where someone said that they had the best two weeks of their summer, in response to that, I thought 'you're just saying that, it can't be that good!' But I can now proudly say that I've not only had the best two weeks of my summer, but my whole life! I've never done anything like this; OSA has exceeded my expectations and I am glad to have made valuable memories with it, which I will cherish forever!”

“I went to OSA in 2014 and attended the maths academy. This experience was so incredible that I don't think I'll ever forget it; I can honestly say it was one of the best summers of my life and a truly life-changing experience. Haikal, my maths tutor, encouraged all of us to try our best and showed us what maths at uni is really like. This was incredibly useful as there's a large difference between maths at school and maths at uni. Combining these lessons with the support of all the staff at OSA, especially the Activity Coordinators who were students themselves, gave me the courage to apply to study maths at uni. The whole setup of the camp gave me a great feel for what studying in Britain would be like, so when I started my mathematics course at the University of Bath, I felt prepared in a way that others weren't.The amazing multicultural environment at OSA was also fantastic, the small group of students meant that we ended up feeling like a family by the end of it and four years later, I'm still in touch with students across the world.Thank you OSA for such an incredible experience! “Over summer 2020, I participated in the Oxford Scholastica online course in International Relations and Leadership. I was glad to have an opportunity to study an academic discipline I was a passion about despite the pandemic. The subject tutorials and masterclasses were extremely engaging and the support I had from my tutors then helped me even after the course when I was writing my university application. I would strongly recommend the course to students who want a clear insight on what their major is all about as the course really provided me with an exciting 2-week journey that helped me decide my university course.”

“At first, I had some reservations in joining the programme because English is not my first language and I am not sure if I would blend in well with an international cohort. But after taking up the programme this summer, I come to realise that my worries was irrelevant because the coach was professional and experienced in the subject matter, his classes were very well planned, which progressively guided my understanding. My peers were friendly and keen to share their knowledge too. This year, I took up the Maths programme because that is the subject I am most confident in. Next year, I plan to explore other subject areas such as English writing to improve my English; and even Veterinarian (although I do not plan to become one, I think the experience will help me to appreciate other professions better when I grow up).I must say, as much as I would appreciate the cost of the programme to come down but given the high teaching quality and the small group coaching environment in addition to the well-planned logistics, the cost is deemed to be justified.”
