Academy Royale International's Psychology & The Human Mind summer school gives students aged 12 to 15 a two-week introduction to psychology in Cambridge. You investigate how memory, perception and emotion work, then run your own research experiments and share your findings on Exhibition Day. Since 2004, we've welcomed students from more than 175 countries to live and study in historic university colleges.
Our Psychology & The Human Mind summer school introduces students aged 12 to 15 to the science of how we think and behave. For two weeks, you live and study in a historic college of the University of Cambridge and investigate the questions you ask every day. Why do some memories stick? How do friends influence your decisions? Can you always trust what you see?
You start by learning what psychologists do and how to tell an assumption from a conclusion backed by evidence. You then study memory and learning, running your own investigations into attention. You explore perception through visual illusions, and learn how the brain and nervous system shape your emotions.
You look at how groups influence the choices we make, and how people learn and change throughout their lives. You apply psychology to everyday behaviour, then review your research findings and present them on Exhibition Day.
Researching academics and working psychologists teach you in small groups, so you get personal feedback and support. Faculty include Dr Jack Andrews, Senior Research Fellow and Wellcome Early-Career Fellow in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, and Dr Anna Scarnà, psychologist and neuroscientist at the University of Oxford.

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus.
Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Fees include tuition, study materials, accommodation, meals, the published activity and excursion programme, welcome and graduation events, a graduation certificate and report, and Academy Royale International merchandise.
