Academy Royale International's Medicine summer school gives students aged 16 to 18 two weeks of teaching modelled on medical school in Oxford or Cambridge. You study the body and disease, then practise clinical examinations and diagnosis in high-fidelity simulations with practising doctors. Since 2004, we've welcomed students from more than 175 countries to live and study in historic university colleges.
Our Medicine summer school helps students aged 16 to 18 decide if medicine is the right path for them. For two weeks, you live and study in a historic college of the University of Oxford or Cambridge and learn how doctors think under pressure, examine patients and work as a clinical team.
The teaching follows real medical school methods. You investigate cases and offer diagnoses and treatment in high-fidelity simulations and practical workshops.
You map the major body systems and learn how structure supports function. You study cell biology and genetics, how disease disrupts the body, and how doctors use test results to reach conclusions. You also build confidence with medical terminology.
You practise vital signs, systematic examination and bedside manner. You work through realistic cases to form a differential diagnosis, and make fast decisions in emergency scenarios. You also discuss consent and confidentiality in medical ethics and law, and learn about routes into medicine.
Practising doctors and medical researchers teach you in small groups, so you get personal feedback and support. Faculty include Lily Mainwaring, NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow in General Surgery at the University of Oxford, and Dr James Thomas, a physician at the Oxford Simulation, Teaching and Research Centre.

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus.
Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Fees include tuition, study materials, accommodation, meals, the published activity and excursion programme, welcome and graduation events, a graduation certificate and report, and Academy Royale International merchandise.
