Academy Royale International's Film Academy gives students aged 12 to 15 two weeks of hands-on filmmaking in Oxford. You learn directing, filming and editing with real kit and industry professionals, and make your own film from script to screen. Since 2004, we've welcomed students from more than 175 countries to live and study in historic university colleges.
Our Film Academy gives students aged 12 to 15 the skills and experience to start a career in film. For two weeks, you live and study in a historic college of the University of Oxford, a city that has appeared in Harry Potter, Wonka and Saltburn.
You work with real filming kit, guided by industry professionals, and take your own film through every stage, from script to post-production.
You learn the theory and practical skills behind filmmaking, including composition, lighting and audio, and the different roles on a film set. You then put theory into action and shoot your own footage.
You edit your footage into a finished film. You also take a screenwriting masterclass with an industry expert and an editing workshop, so you leave with a full picture of how films get made.
Experienced film industry professionals teach you in small groups, so you get personal feedback and support. Faculty include Bruce Windwood, a multi-award-winning filmmaker who also teaches at the National Film & Television School, and Govind Chandran, Senior Lecturer in Film at Oxford Brookes University.

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus.
Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Fees include tuition, study materials, accommodation, meals, the published activity and excursion programme, welcome and graduation events, a graduation certificate and report, and Academy Royale International merchandise.
