Academy Royale International's Experimental Psychology summer school gives students aged 16 to 18 two weeks of university-style teaching in Oxford or Cambridge. You study how the brain processes information, explore mental health and social behaviour, and design and run your own experiments. Since 2004, we've welcomed students from more than 175 countries to live and study in historic university colleges.
Our Experimental Psychology summer school matches new ideas with practical experience for students aged 16 to 18. For two weeks, you live and study in a historic college of the University of Oxford or Cambridge, learn how the brain works and run your own experiments.
You start by applying the scientific method to psychology and learning how experiments are structured and run ethically. You study how the brain processes information, what different areas of the brain do, and how the mind develops across the human lifespan.
You explore group behaviour and how relationships shape our thoughts and actions. You learn how psychologists understand and treat mental health conditions, why people react differently to the same situations, and how psychology makes a difference in communities.
Researching academics and working psychologists teach you in small groups, so you get personal feedback and support. Faculty include Dr Jack Andrews, Senior Research Fellow and Wellcome Early-Career Fellow at the University of Oxford, and Stuart Clare, who leads the core team at the Oxford University Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging.

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus.
Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Fees include tuition, study materials, accommodation, meals, the published activity and excursion programme, welcome and graduation events, a graduation certificate and report, and Academy Royale International merchandise.
Meal arrangements vary by age and campus. Marlborough College residential fees include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oxford and Cambridge academic programmes include breakfast and dinner, plus lunch for students aged 12 to 15 in Oxford.
