Academy Royale International's Engineering summer school gives students aged 16 to 18 two weeks of university-style engineering teaching in Oxford or Cambridge. You study civil, mechanical, aeronautical and electrical engineering through lectures, case studies and practical workshops with Oxford engineers. Since 2004, we've welcomed students from more than 175 countries to live and study in historic university colleges.
Our Engineering summer school combines in-depth scientific understanding with problem-solving for students aged 16 to 18. For two weeks, you live and study in a historic college of the University of Oxford or Cambridge and learn how engineers use maths, materials science and creativity to solve real problems.
You learn through lectures, seminars, case studies and practical workshops.
You start by hearing from guest speakers and faculty about the main engineering disciplines and careers. You then study civil and structural engineering, from buildings to infrastructure, and mechanical and aeronautical engineering, including how engineers design aircraft.
You study electrical and electronic engineering and how engineers design systems for industry. Your final module looks at emerging technology and the new careers it's creating.
Leading experts and working engineers teach you in small groups, so you get personal feedback and support. Faculty include Dr Digby Chappell, Associate Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a member of the Oxford Robotics Institute, and Christoph Birkl, a battery technology expert with a DPhil in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford.

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus.
Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Fees include tuition, study materials, accommodation, meals, the published activity and excursion programme, welcome and graduation events, a graduation certificate and report, and Academy Royale International merchandise.
Meal arrangements vary by age and campus. Marlborough College residential fees include breakfast, lunch and dinner. Oxford and Cambridge academic programmes include breakfast and dinner, plus lunch for students aged 12 to 15 in Oxford.
