Course Summary

The ‘Explore Medicine’ programme, delivered by Oxford Royale, provides student with a broad introduction to the human body and mind. Students explore the skills and knowledge they need to become a successful doctor or nurse through a focus on human anatomy and physiology. They explore the basics of human anatomy as they identify different career trajectories in the exciting fields of medicine and healthcare.

Students can expand their understanding of medicine through practical, hands-on medical simulations including conducting a physical exam, applying splints and slings, and controlling external haemorrhaging. Students at the Medicine Summer School will investigate both the practice of medicine and build their knowledge, and strengthen their interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills—skills essential for future medical professionals.

Course Highlights

  • Experience life as a doctor – take patient histories, practise diagnosis, and develop treatment plans in clinical simulations
  • Master medical skills – learn CPR, perform system-specific examinations, and engage in emergency A–E scenarios
  • Explore diseases and treatments – study how the body works, and what happens when it doesn’t, across the respiratory, nervous, cardiovascular, and digestive systems
  • Innovate in health tech – design a medical app or device to solve a real health challenge in an exciting design sprint challenge
  • Build communication and teamwork – develop essential skills through ethical debates, breaking bad news role plays, and group research projects.
