Course Summary
The Explore Engineering programme offers a dynamic introduction to civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering for students aged 13 to 15. Through engaging workshops, real-world case studies, and hands-on projects, students will gain foundational knowledge in physics and mathematics as applied to engineering. They’ll examine how engineers solve practical problems and collaborate across disciplines. Participants will build machines, design solutions, and test prototypes, learning to think critically and creatively like true engineers. This course is perfect for curious minds keen to understand how the world is built and powered, and how they can shape its future.

An Oxford Royale summer course is about more than just classroom learning: students gain practical experience through interactive workshops and design challenges. By building, testing, and analysing their own creations, they develop critical thinking, teamwork, and innovation skills. This immersive approach helps students discover how engineering shapes the world, and how they can be part of it.
There's something for everyone at Oxford Royale. Grow your skills in public speaking and argument at our Debate Society, with the grand final hosted at the iconic Oxford Union. Unwind after lessons on tours of the city, spend time with new friends while punting, joining a football match, or just by relaxing in your college grounds. Every student will also head out on an excursion, allowing then to experience more of the UK and make unforgettable memories.
Our Headline Address is a unique event that allows students to be inspired by some of the leading minds of our time - don't miss out on our incredible 2025 lineup, including Professor Brian Cox, Helen Sharman and Rory Sutherland.
Students on our Explore Engineering programme will stay on campus in an actual college of the University of Oxford. With 24 hour support from the campus staff, our participants will live, study, dine and socialise in the same spots as some of the University of Oxford's most famous alumni.

Students will be supervised at all times on campus, with a Programme Director leading a team of qualified and carefully selected teachers, junior deans and counsellors. Student safety is our number one priority, and you can find out more here: https://www.oxford-royale.com/student-welfare
In the UK students will receive 20 hours of teaching per week, and outside of classes will enjoy a number of enrichment activities. In the USA, our students will have up to 17.5 of teaching hours per week, alongside extracurricular enrichment activities.
You can go online and check your visa requirements by visiting the useful Check if you need a UK visa tool from the UK government. Students from European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries do not currently require a visa to enter the UK to attend our academic or English language courses. We recommend that students keep checking this page - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen - for further information and updates. Oxford Royale Academy recommends that registered students who require a visa to enter the UK apply for a Standard Visitor visa (details here), which authorises students to attend a short course of study (including English language programmes) in the UK. Students attending our Summer Schools in the USA may be able to enter the United States on the Visa Waiver programme. You can find out whether you qualify for this by using the online Visa Wizard on the US Travel website – select the ‘study or exchange’, then ‘recreational program’ options. You will not require a student visa, but a standard visitor visa.
Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus. Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.
Our students will receive their Oxford Royale graduation certificate at the end of their course, and will also receive a full, personal report on their academic achievement.
