Each destination is distinctive in its own way and promises to provide every student with something to explore, learn or admire. To help give you a greater insight into some of our favourite cities, we’ve compiled a list of our top 6 summer study destinations.

1. Oxford

Rich in history and academic inspiration, Oxford is at the top of the list for a multitude of reasons. It is a city with something for everyone, from fascinating museums and the captivating colleges to the stunning scenery and tranquil river. Oxford is the perfect balance between the old and the new, with beautiful cobbled streets that can tell tales from years gone by lined with bright and bustling shops and restaurants. You can go punting down the river in the afternoon and spend the evening at a rooftop restaurant admiring the dreaming spires scattered across the skyline. It really is a city of balance, and we think it provides summer school students with the perfect blend of old and new, fun and interesting and academic and recreational.

2. Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a place for wanderers. Those wanting to experience a city full of life and character would do well to pick Edinburgh, with plenty of secrets just waiting to be discovered by intrepid explorers. Many writers have been drawn to the city and its picturesque cityscape, citing the gothic architecture and fascinating historical past as just a couple of the inspiring attributes of Edinburgh. The city also boasts an abundance of open green space (hence it’s title as the greenest city in the UK) which is hugely attractive for those looking for an urban experience with some more natural avenues to explore.

3. Cambridge

Much like Oxford, Cambridge is a beautiful academic city that promises to inspire students with tales of success. A summer school spent in one of the stunning university colleges can be so marvellous it makes you dizzy with excitement, and you may want to take a stroll alongside the River Cam or explore the fragrant Botanic Garden for some fresh air. It is a great place to grab a pair of trainers or hop on a bicycle and explore at your leisure, with so many attractions squeezed into the city centre. If you’re seeking a truly academic experience shrouded in an impressive heritage and bursting full of exciting quirks, then look no further than Cambridge.

4. London

People come from near and far to visit London and soak up the British culture that emanates from its capital city. As a study destination, London is certainly suited to those looking for a bustling and buzzing atmosphere with a never-ending list of things to see and do. After your classes, you might find yourself marvelling at the British Museum or taking a walk over Tower Bridge as you scour the huge variety of eateries in the city centre. London is a great place to study if you’re looking to get the truly iconic British experience, complete with red telephone box selfies and a whirl on the London Eye.

5. Bristol

A city of art and creativity awaits those who study in Bristol. This is a study destination that offers a unique blend of urban landscape and nature, with refreshing open spaces and even a floating harbour nestled right in the centre of the city. The two universities housed in Bristol make it heavily populated with students, leading to plenty of attractions and sights perfect to explore after class. The shopping in the city is another perk, with a dedicated multi-layered and modern shopping centre as well as a quirkier 277-year-old market building bursting full of curious purchases.

6. St Andrews

Up in Scotland, the coastal town of St Andrews is a great place to study for those eager to experience Scottish tradition and history whilst living in an unspoiled town right on the sea. The stunning cathedral is a spectacular sight associated with St Andrews, and the mysterious ghost tours that run throughout the town are certainly inspired by tales from this iconic ruin. The refreshing sea air will invigorate any student musing around the town, whilst the museums are sure to capture the interest of those wanting to learn more about St Andrews’ past.

Exeter, Brighton and More…

It is also perfectly situated in the beautiful county of Devon, which boasts some of the most impressive natural beauty in the whole of the UK. Elsewhere in England, Brighton is a gorgeous coastal city that mesmerises tourists with its vibrant pier, featuring rollercoasters and a lively arcade. The beach is one of Brighton’s top attractions, offering students somewhere calming to unwind with friends and a picnic as the sun goes down.
