Course Summary

Oxford Royale’s Law and Trial Advocacy Summer Course at Yale University offers students a comprehensive introduction to law through expert-led teaching, hands-on workshops, and a Mock Trial Simulation. Covering Criminal, Civil, Business, and Contract Law, as well as Ethics and Human Rights, the course develops critical thinking, communication, and advocacy skills. Students gain practical experience in case preparation, oral arguments, and cross-examination, culminating in a competitive mock trial and showcase events.

Oxford Royale’s Law and Trial Advocacy Summer Course is hosted on campus at Yale University and provides students with a broad introduction to the theory and practice of law. It will equip them with a strong set of logical and argumentative skill through legal case studies and a Mock Trial Simulation, teaching them how to develop, argue and win their case.

Students will gain insight into Criminal and Civil Law, while exploring facets of Business Law, Contract Law, Ethics and Human Rights. Experience the legal process and learn about evidence, case preparation, oral arguments, cross-examination and witness preparation as they grow their knowledge of the legal profession. Oxford Royale students will strengthen their critical thinking, communication and rhetorical skills as they compete in the Mock Trial Simulation and the end of their two week Summer Course.

FAQ's

Where will I be staying?

Our students will be staying in actual university accommodation. Most of our accommodation sites offer a mix of single and twin bedrooms. Some campuses have en-suite bedrooms while others have bathroom facilities shared between a small group of same-sex students. In some campuses, students have the option to pay our ‘En-suite Reservation Fee’, which entitles students to an en-suite room should one be available at their campus. Contact our Admissions Team for more information. Sharing your room with fellow students is a great way of getting to know people and making friends. You can also request to share a room with someone you know studying the same course as you, though this is not guaranteed and must be done in advance of the course.

How many hours of tuition are provided?

In the UK students will receive 20 hours of teaching per week, and outside of classes will enjoy a number of enrichment activities. In the USA, our students will have up to 17.5 of teaching hours per week, alongside extracurricular enrichment activities.

What level of English do I need?

Our English language requirements are as follows: B1 for Learn English programmes C1 or IELTS level 6.5 or higher for all academic programmes Students who have studied at an English speaking school for two or more years are exempt from English requirements. If you feel you need advice on whether you can attend with you english level, please feel free to contact our Admissions team.

What supervision is provided?

Students will be supervised at all times on campus, with a Programme Director leading a team of qualified and carefully selected teachers, junior deans and counsellors. Student safety is our number one priority, and you can find out more here: https://www.oxford-royale.com/student-welfare

Will I get a certificate?

Our students will receive their Oxford Royale graduation certificate at the end of their course, and will also receive a full, personal report on their academic achievement.

What visa do I need?

You can go online and check your visa requirements by visiting the useful Check if you need a UK visa tool from the UK government. Students from European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA) countries do not currently require a visa to enter the UK to attend our academic or English language courses. We recommend that students keep checking this page - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen - for further information and updates. Oxford Royale Academy recommends that registered students who require a visa to enter the UK apply for a Standard Visitor visa (details here), which authorises students to attend a short course of study (including English language programmes) in the UK. Students attending our Summer Schools in the USA may be able to enter the United States on the Visa Waiver programme. You can find out whether you qualify for this by using the online Visa Wizard on the US Travel website – select the ‘study or exchange’, then ‘recreational program’ options. You will not require a student visa, but a standard visitor visa.
